Scripture: James 5:7–11
“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming…”
Lately, I’ve been reminded that I’m not great at waiting.
Whether it’s waiting for prayers to be answered, for a door to open, or for something to just make sense, I tend to rush ahead or get discouraged. But James 5 hits me right where I need it: “Be patient, until the Lord’s coming.”
And it’s not just “wait it out”, it’s the kind of waiting that a farmer does. That got me thinking, farmers don’t plant seeds and then panic the next day because nothing’s sprouted. They trust the process. They know growth takes time, even when nothing seems to be happening above the soil.
James reminds us that the Christian life requires that same kind of steady, stubborn patience. He even brings up the prophets and Job. Honestly, I’d rather not sign up for Job-level suffering, but I get the point: their endurance mattered. They held on through the silence, the confusion, the pain, and God didn’t forget them.
What sticks with me most is verse 11:
“You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.”
That part right there, that’s the anchor. I’m not just waiting on a random timeline. I’m waiting on a God who is full of compassion and mercy. He sees me. He hasn’t lost track of my story. Even when things feel like they’re dragging or falling apart, He’s still writing something good.
So if you’re tired of waiting right now, waiting for healing, clarity, purpose, or just some peace, you’re not alone. But you’re not wasting time either. God’s timing isn’t a delay, it’s part of the growth.
Let’s not give up just because we can’t see the whole picture yet.
